A "Community Media Event" as part of Environment Week
18-19-20 September 2008Introduction: Community media is where people come together to make media to express a collective voice. As such it has at least two strong points – it brings people together, and, it develops a voice.
In Cambodia, where a lot of communities are dependent on natural resources for their survival, community expression is very often related to those natural resources and to the environment in general. The community media event to be held on 19-20 September 2008 is about sharing community voices related to the environment. It is an opportunity for communities from all around Cambodia to come together to share song, poems, theatre, dance, drawings, photos, posters and video about the environment (which is defined broadly and can include culture and issues).
Prizes, judged by a panel of community people, will be awarded to the best message and the best community effort in a number of different messages. There will also be a lottery each day of prizes for participants who register (we should try to get private donations for this – Soriya Centre?)
(Optional) Thursday 18 September 2008 (at Institute Technology of Cambodia)
As part of the large set of events that make up Environment Week, there are lectures and films shown at the Institute Technology of Cambodia (near the corner of Pochentong Road and Toul Kork Road- just before RUPP). The limits of the topic. The topic for the event is “the environment”. This is very broad and can include things that overlap with the environment - like culture, livelihoods etc. It can also include things about threats to the environment and natural resources.
